Stop smoking.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, smoking is one of the factors that cause poor eyesight and blindness. It triggers macular degeneration, which impairs the central vision. It also leads to cataracts — a cause of blurry vision. Quitting smoking will not only reduce your risk of contracting eye problems but also prevent you from acquiring major health issues, such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

Eat the right food.

Aside from quitting smoking, you also have to be aware of what you eat. After all, the right food helps cells regenerate. Seafood, red meat, egg yolks, green vegetables (like broccoli), apricots, and almonds, are just some examples. It is also suggested that a daily intake of at least five servings of vegetables and fruits is essential to your retinal health. The important nutrients you can get from these foods include omega-3 fatty acids (which prevent inflammation), zinc,  and vitamins A, C, and E.

Exercise regularly.

Just like eating healthy food, exercising also positively affects your entire body. It doesn’t just prevent heart disease and diabetes; it also keeps your eyes safe from developing glaucoma. Remember, however, that you don’t necessarily have to be a professional athlete. The trick is to make time for a short workout daily, even if it’s as simple as walking around the block or climbing the stairs.
